Thailand Mining Overview
Mine Production Information
Thailand’s mineral resources are consumed domestically and exported. Thailand also imports a substantial amount of mineral resources. Thailand produced 200 tons of tin in both 2013 and 2014, and has reserves of 170,000 tons. A decrease in zinc ore has not led to decreases in processed zinc products.
Rare Earth Metal mine production increased from 800 tons in 2013 to 1,1,00 tons in 2014, comprising 1.0% of worldwide production. Thailand produces large amounts of industrial minerals such as gypsum and dolomite. Gypsum production held steady from 2013 to 2014 at 6,300,000 tons.
Value-Added Products
Private companies run most processing facilities. Thailand’s cement production and clinker capacity held steady in 2013 and 2014 at 42,000,000 tons and 50,000,000 tons respectively.
Major Exports
Cement • Feldspar • Gypsum • Tin • Gold
Market Summary
With the Chatree Gold Mine reopened, gold production should increase in Thailand. Thailand is focused in many ways on industrial materials, however there is increased interest in the government in cooperation with foreign sources to secure various minerals.
