Mine Production Information
Peru produced 1,400,000 tons of copper in 2014, a small increase from 1,380,000 tons produced in 2013. A significant amount was produced for export to China. Similarly, lead production increased from 266,000 tons in 2013 to 270,000 tons in 2014. Phosphate rock production increased from 2,580,000 tons in 2013 to 2,600,000 tons in 2014. Silver production increased from 3,670 tons in 2013 to 3,700 tons in 2014.
Peru’s production of molybdenum and tin held steady over the last two years at 18,100 tons and 27,100 tons respectively.
Gold production registered a slight decrease from the 151 tons produced in 2013, with 150 tons produced in 2014.
Value-Added Products
Peru has had pollution scandals with lead smelters and other mining processing plants that have received international attention. The copper smelter at Southern Peru Cuajone Copper Mine is the largest copper mining and smelting project ever built.
