Canada Mining Overview
Mine Production Information
Gemstones and gold are among the minerals that have substantially raised production in 2014. Canada produced 124 tons of gold in 2013 and 160 tons of gold in 2014. However, multiple minerals, including gypsum and iron ore, have seen production fall due to oversupply in the market. Canada produced 2,650,000 tons of gypsum in 2013 and just 1,800,000 tons in 2014, despite the construction boom in the United States over the same time period.
Value-Added Products
Canada has extensive smelting and processing facilities to produce refined and intermediate metal products. Mills producing concentrates of zinc, lead, copper, gold, and other minerals have recently expanded. Diamond ore processing facilities and a gold-cobalt-bismuth-copper mine and concentrator was approved in 2014 for construction.
Major Exports
Intermediate Metal Products • Industrial Minerals • Metal Ores and Concentrates
Market Summary
Canada is a major minerals supplier of the United States. As an export focused country, Canada is well positioned to expand despite increasing environmental pressures and the globalization of the industry as a result of its mineral resource base.
